Long Distance Moves
A long distance move is defined as a move either farther
than 100 miles or across state borders. These moves require
a significant amount of time and investment. Since a long
distance mover will probably be in possession of your items
for several days, it's very important to take the time to find a
reputable mover you can trust to carry out your move.
How do I start?
A long distance move may seem like a big undertaking, but
planning your move doesn’t have to be difficult. Your first
task will be getting a quote. Our sales department is the
perfect place to start: 1-800-270-4315. Once you call our
service center you will immediately understand that you
are a valued client as our dedicated representatives will
explain the entire process and quote for you, A-Z. As you
discuss the options with your representatives, think about
what services will be best for you. Would you like us to take
care of all your packing, or just protection of your furniture?
Would you like to ship a car, or would you rather drive to your
new home?
Would you like to include additional services,
such as crating of fragile goods or packing? Your
representative will be delighted to go over all the options
with you and help you make an educated decision.
In order to receive a quote on your shipment, you will need
to let us know what items you are shipping. There are two
ways to go about this – either we can send a visual estimator
to your location in the San Francisco or the Los Angeles area,
or we can go over a list of items with you. If you are within the
range of our visual estimators, we would strongly recommend
taking advantage of a binding, not to exceed estimate that the
visual can provide you. If, like many of our clients, you live
outside the visual range, there is no need to worry. The sales
representatives will be able to provide you with a very accurate
estimate of the size (and, more importantly, weight) of your
shipment based on a list of items provided via e-mail or over
the phone. Either way, the estimate is free of charge and at
no obligation to you, so there is nothing to lose and everything
to gain by taking 10 minutes to review your relocation needs
with one of our representatives.
What services are provided with my long distance move?
Super Movers strives to make your move the easiest and most
straight forward it can possibly be. Our basic service includes
the entire door to door pick up and delivery – this means that
every item or box will be picked up from its location in your
current home or office and placed in the proper rooms in your
new residence. We will disassemble ("break down") your basic
furniture and wrap it with moving blankets to keep it safe from
dents or scratches. At the other end of your move, we will
un-wrap the furniture and reassemble it for you. The blankets
will be provided free of charge. There is no additional charge
for the first flight of stairs at either end of your move, or for
stairs inside your home. This means that if you live in a second
level apartment or in a multi story house, there will be no charge
for stairs whatsoever. If your apartment is higher than the 2nd
floor, ask your sales representative for a quote including stairs.
There is no tax on moving, and the quote you receive will include
all fuel, tolls, mileage and transportation fees, as well as basic
insurance coverage.
Special Moves
Super Movers isn’t only qualified to move your simple beds,
bookshelves and sofas. We are set up to handle anything and
everything you need to move, from your grandmother's fragile
china to your grand piano to your place of business. Pianos and
other large or bulky items will be handled by a specially trained
crew with appropriate equipment– be sure to give as much
information as possible to your sales representative to be sure
that you are receiving the most accurate quote. Moving of bulky
or specialty items may mean that there will be additional handling
fees added to your estimate.
Not all of your items can be simply wrapped in a blanket. TVs,
mattresses, glass table tops, framed pictures, and other fragile
items will need additional protection. Though many of our clients
prefer to protect these items themselves, we do offer packing
services and it is worthwhile to get a quote for both options.
What about packing?
A full packing, white glove service is also available – this will
provide you with a discounted rate on ALL packing labor,
materials and additional furniture protection. This is the most
comprehensive service offered: the client doesn’t have to
prepare at all before his move, and can just sit and watch the
specially trained crew take care of everything. Ask your
representative for a quote on full packing.
If you don’t have time to go get boxes, there's no need to worry.
If you are located in the Bay Area or in the Los Angeles area,
then we would be happy to provide you with free box delivery.
Customers that have had visual estimates or customers that have
a large shipment may be entitled to free boxes, so ask your
representative what we can do for you.
Getting a Quote
A long distance move is charged by a price per pound, which is
calculated taking the distance, date, and size of your move into
consideration. There are two ways to get a quote from Super
Movers: a free, in home visual estimate or an estimate based
on a list of items. If you live near San Francisco or Los Angeles,
we would highly recommend getting a visual estimate to provide
you with a binding, not to exceed quote.
The quote you receive at the end of the visual estimate will be
the most accurate estimate possible on your move – because we
had the opportunity to actually see all your belongings, we
will guarantee a ceiling on your moving price. This means that
on moving day, even if the weight of the items on the truck is
more than what we have written on the estimate, your price will
be guaranteed to remain the same. If the truck weighs less,
you may even see your price go down.
If you don’t live in our area, there is no need to worry! Our
dedicated sales representatives will be happy to provide you
with an estimate based on a list of items. We can do this any
way you'd like: usually, 15 minutes over the phone is more
than enough to go over a list verbally. Our sales people are
usually able to give you a quote during the same
conversation – if they cannot for any reason, they will be getting
back to you promptly to provide you with the estimate.
Many clients prefer to put together an items list online and send it to
us by e-mail or by fax. We have an items check off list available
that can help you with this process. In either case, a sales
representative will get back to you promptly with a quote based
on your list.
Will my items be shipped alone or with other people's
goods?
Most of our long distance moves are done with 18 wheeler
tractor trailers, and we usually consolidate shipments to keep
prices low. For extremely large moves, a trailer may be
reserved for your shipment only, which means that your delivery
will be direct. Most moves, however, are completed with shared
trucks. Each and every shipment is inventoried upon pick up,
and items from each move are marked with a special color
coded sticker to avoid confusion. The shipments will be in
partitioned sections of the truck, so each move is separated
and has its own compartment in the vehicle.
What if I cannot take immediate delivery?
When you receive your moving quote, the representative or
visual estimator will provide you with a delivery window. Bear
in mind that this is usually the worst case scenario for delivery,
and that your items will probably arrive well within this window.
If you are not prepared to take immediate delivery, let your
representative know and they will mark a "first available date
for delivery" on your contract. This means that the items will
be guaranteed not to arrive before a specific date of your
choosing. If this is only a mater of a few days, we may be able
to hold the items at no additional charge. If you need a longer
period, we may need to place your items in storage.
I need storage for a few months while my house is being
finished. Can I do that with Super Movers?
Storage in transit is an integral part of long distance moves.
We use our own facilities for storage, and can provide you with
a quote based on the size of your shipment. Our facilities are
new, guarded 24 hours a day and partitioned into separate
vaults for each and every shipment. If you need storage in a
location where we do not have a facility of our own, we would
be happy to deliver it to a facility of your choosing.
I have some very expensive items and I would like
additional insurance. What do I do?
The insurance provided in your quote is very basic, and is
compliant with national law. The coverage of $.60 per pound
is usually considered sufficient by our customers, but we
always encourage our clients to look into whatever options will
help them sleep better while their move is being completed.
When contemplating the cost of additional insurance, bear in
mind that Super Movers maintains a claims ratio of fewer than
3%, one of the lowest rates in the nation. Ask your
representative for recommendations on insurance companies
we work with.
I don’t know how much my shipment weighs. Do you
weigh my goods?
After a long distance relocation has been picked up, the truck
is brought to a certified weigh station and weighed to
determine the poundage of your shipment. The weighing
station will provide us with a certified weight slip with the final
weight, and we will pass this along to you. The final weight is
what the price will be based on. If you would like to accompany
us to the weighing station to observe the weighing, we would
be happy to arrange it. Please notify our dispatch in advance
so we can arrange this for you.
Remember that if you have received a binding, not to exceed
estimate, your price can only go down with the weighing, not
up.
Do you have a minimum amount of pounds you are
willing to ship?
Super Movers has no minimum move size – we would be happy
to pick up even one box. We do, however, have a minimum cost
for each move, as always calculated by date and distance. Ask
your representative for this price in regards to your locations and
move date.
How long does it take for my items to arrive?
Though actual delivery time depends on the mover's schedules,
the date and size of your shipment, we will be able to provide
you with a relatively broad delivery window with your quote.
By law, movers are required to deliver within 21 business days
of pick up. Since we realize that 21 business days is a long time
for most clients to wait, we will narrow the delivery window for
you once we know the approximate size and distance of your
move. Usually, after your shipment has been picked up, we will
be able to narrow it further for you.
Bear in mind that the window you will receive represents the absolute maximum for delivery,
and that our shipments are usually completed in much less time.
To make sure the items don’t arrive before you do, be sure to tell
your representative exactly when you will be able to accept delivery.
I'm not sure if I have access for a large trailer to access my
location. Now what?
Super Movers usually uses large, 18 wheeler semi trailers for its
interstate moves, and sometimes even for long distance moves
within California. We understand that not everyone is moving to
a street or a storage facility that is big enough to accommodate
these vehicles; therefore we offer a shuttle service in areas that
do not have access for a trailer. This means that we will organize
a smaller truck to be present on the moving day, and this truck will
make rounds between your location and the location where our
vehicle can park. The fee for a shuttle includes the truck, fuel and
extra labor our movers will provide to load everything into the
smaller vehicle, drive it back and forth, and to unload it into your
new location.
When assessing whether or not you have access, bear in mind
that Super Movers only employs the most experienced drivers,
who have the skills needed to back into even the trickiest of
driveways, as long as there is physically space for a truck to
enter. Usually, if a large garbage truck can make its way down
your street, so can we.
Some cities and communities may have ordinances against
large trucks, so check with your city hall or building manager
to find out what your local rules are. The most prominent example
is the island of Manhattan, and some other parts of New York
City – it is illegal to bring large moving trucks on the island, so
shuttle fees almost always apply to moves going to these areas.
If we can't park right outside your door, it doesn’t always mean
a shuttle is necessary. Instead, the movers can carry your items
the extra distance to the truck. If we need to park the moving
truck more than 75 feet from your front door or the entrance to
your building, an additional charge may apply.
Since a shuttle fee may add a significant amount to your moving
quote, be sure to let your representative or visual estimator
know if you have any doubts about access at either end of your
move.
I won't be at my pick up location when the movers arrive.
Is this a problem?
In order to maintain a high level of integrity in our moves, an
inventory of all the items loaded onto our truck during pick up.
This means you will need a representative to approve the list
and sign upon pick up, and obviously to unlock the location for
us. This representative can be a relative, trusted friend or even
the manager of the storage facility where your items are being
stored. Let us know the name of the representative in advance
and we will put his or her name on the contract.
How do I know what time the movers will arrive?
As always, Super Movers wants to make sure there are
absolutely no unpleasant surprises for you at any point. To
make sure everyone is on the same page, we will give you a
call 24-48 hours in advance of pick up to let you know exactly
what time we will be arriving. While your shipment is in transit,
you will be able to track it 7 days a week through our dispatch
department. On the delivery end, you will receive another call
24-48 hours in advance to let you know exactly what time the
delivery will take place.
I'm happy with my quote and excited about your services.
What now?
Once you have made a decision to move with Super Movers,
we will assemble a contract for you. This legal document
includes all of the details about your move – your items list, your
addresses for pick up and delivery and your contact information.
It will also include a page pertaining to laws involved with your
move – details such as what is and isn’t allowed on the truck.
Finally, we will include a list of all possible additional charges,
which you should review to ensure that there will not be any
surprises upon moving day. We will need this contract signed
and returned to us in order to hold your moving date.
Is a deposit required?
Long distance moves require a deposit in order for the move
to begin. This deposit will be deducted from the final price of
the move. For most moves, the deposit is 25% of the total
estimate. This will need to be paid by personal check, certified
check, or money order. Usually, we will need this to arrive in our
offices 7 business days before the start of your move. If there
isn’t time for us to receive it a week in advance, you may need
to overnight the check directly to our central office in San
Francisco.
If you have had a visual estimate, a 15% deposit is required, and
you can pay it using a personal check, a money order or a credit
