Local Moves

A local move is defined as a move or relocation
within 100 miles.
These shipments (unless they are exceptionally large)
are usually completed on the same day and
charged at an hourly rate.

What is included in a local move?

A local move is a very comprehensive service.
Our team of trained professionals will arrive at your pick up
location, ready to begin work. They will come with a fully equipped
moving vehicle, including dolly, belting, and any other equipment
you might need. They will also have an ample supply of boxes to
help with your packing.

The move will be full service, meaning that the movers will do
everything for you, from A to Z. They take your items from where
they are in your house now, disassemble the furniture and wrap it
in soft moving blankets for protection. Your items will then be
loaded, carefully but promptly, into the moving vehicle where they
will be secured for the journey to your new location. If you would
like the movers to pack for you, they will be happy to do so.
Wardrobe boxes will be provided for you free of charge on the
day of move, and other boxes can be purchased as needed.
At the other end of your move, we will unload all the items,
unwrap the furniture for you and place all of the items in their
proper locations in your new home. At your request, we can also
provide you with an unpacking service.

How do you decide what to charge me for a local move?
Local moves are usually charged on an hourly rate. The hourly rate
is determined by many factors: the demand for your moving date,
the time of year, the number of men needed to complete the move
most efficiently, and the location of your move all affect the hourly
charge. The hourly rate is the only charge for your move other than
packing materials or boxes you may have asked to purchase– you
don’t have to worry about any surprise charges or any hidden fees.
Remember that if you already have packing materials at your home,
we will pack into them for you.

There are no additional charges for flights of stairs or a long carry.
Remember, the longer movers spend climbing stairs, using an
elevator, packing or carrying your items, the longer your move will
take. For this reason, it is important to give all possible details on
your plans and locations to your representative before the move
takes place.

Super Movers conducts all its moves with integrity, and as such we
will not charge you for travel time between our offices and your
location, or for times in which our crews are not working for you.
Our timers start the moment our crews start working, and end
when they finish the job.

Our moves are charged by fifteen minute increments, so you won't
end up paying for time that you don’t use. This means that if your
move takes 3 3/4 hours to complete, you will pay for exactly that –
not for 4 hours.

If you are located in our area, we may also be able to provide you
with free box delivery.

How do I begin?

Your first task will be getting a quote. Our sales department is the
perfect place to start: 866-381-8985. Once you call our service center
you will immediately understand that you are a valued client as our
dedicated representatives will explain the entire process and quote
for you. As you discuss the options with your representatives, think
about what services will be best for you. Would you like us to take
care of all your packing, or just protection of your furniture? Would
you like to include additional services, such as crating of fragile
goods? Your representative will be delighted to go over all the
options with you and help you make an educated decision.

In order to receive a quote on your shipment, you will need to let
us know what items you are shipping. There are two ways to go
about this – either we can send a visual estimator to your location
in the San Francisco or the Los Angeles area, or we can go over a
list of items with you. If you have a large local move and are within
the range of our visual estimators, we would strongly recommend
taking advantage of a binding, not to exceed estimate that the visual
can provide you. Generally, we recommend visual estimates to local
moves of 3 bedrooms or more.

If, like many of our clients, you live outside the visual range, there is
no need to worry. The sales representatives will be able to provide
you with a very accurate estimate of the size of your shipment based
on a list of items provided via e-mail or over the phone. This will
help us estimate how long your move will take to complete. Either
way, the estimate is free of charge and at no obligation to you, so
there is nothing to lose and everything to gain by taking 10 minutes
to review your relocation needs with one of our representatives.

What if I cannot do my own packing?

If you don’t have time to pack your own items, don’t worry! The
packing service in a local move can be provided; you will be charged
for the materials needed to pack your belongings and the time it took.
The movers will loan you with wardrobe boxes free of charge to use
on the day of move. These very large boxes are very easy to pack –
you can just take everything out of the closet and hang it inside the
box.

As for your other items, we will be happy to pack them into boxes
that you already have at your location. Alternatively, you are welcome
to purchase boxes from us on the spot. If you are located in our area,
then we may be able to provide you with free box delivery.

I need to move at the last minute! Can Super Movers help me?

Super Movers usually requests at least 2 weeks advance notice on
all its moves, especially during the busy summer months. However,
if this isn’t an option for you, definitely still give us a call and see if
we have availability on the date you need. On certain dates, we may
even be able to set up a pick up on the same day. Bear in mind that
organizing a last minute move often means that we need to re-route
a truck to come and do your pick up, so an additional charge may apply.

I don’t have a lot to move. Can I ship even a small amount with
Super Movers?

Super Movers successfully completes moves of every size and shape.
We can move everything from your full household or business, all the
way down to a single box. Most moves have a minimum – a certain
number of hours that will be charged irrespective of how long the move
takes. Speak with your representative find out what the minimum is for
your move.

Special Moves

Super Movers isn’t only qualified to move your simple beds,
bookshelves and sofas. We are set up to handle anything and
everything you need to move, from your grandmother's fragile
china to your grand piano to your place of business. Pianos and
other large or bulky items will be handled by a specially trained
crew with appropriate equipment– be sure to give as much information
as possible to your sales representative to be sure that you are receiving
the most accurate quote. Moving of bulky or specialty items may mean
that there will be additional handling fees added to your estimate.

If you are moving only one special item local (a piano, for example)
Super Movers may be able to provide you with a flat rate for the move.

I need storage for a few months while my house is being finished.
Can I do that with Super Movers?
Storage is among the many services we provide through our own
facilities. We use our own storage facilities, and can provide you
with a quote based on the size of your shipment. Our facilities are
new, clean, guarded 24 hours a day. We have large secure vaults for
each and every shipment. If you need storage in a location where we
do not have a facility of our own, we would be happy to deliver it to
a facility of your choosing.

Storage with a local move is different from a long distance move in
the sense that a local client does not need storage in transit – the
service is essentially two moves, one from the first location to the
storage, and another out of the storage and into the new location.

I live on a small street. If a large truck can't access me, is there
an additional fee?
Unless your local move is extremely large, our dispatchers rarely
send a full semi trailer to complete your move. Instead, they will
review your list of items and send a smaller trailer that will have
enough space for all of your items. If either of your locations are
particularly difficult to access, let your visual estimator or sales
representative know so they can reserve a truck of the proper size
for you.

If we can park nearby (but not directly in front of) your home, there
is no need to worry. There is no additional charge for a long carry
with a local move.

What about travel time?
California Public Utilities Commission states in their rules on
moving that moving companies charge travel time back and forth –
effectively meaning that the time it takes us to travel from your
point A to point B is doubled when calculating the final bill for
the move. This doubled travel time will already be included in the
quote you receive from our representatives.

Unlike some moving companies, Super Movers will not charge you
for time spent driving from our office to you. We will only start the
clock once the move has begun, and turn it off the moment they
finish.

Once Super Movers has received your list of items, either by phone,
by e-mail or through a visual estimate, we will have one of our
experienced dispatchers select the size truck that will be used in your
relocation. You can rest assured that your shipment will be completed
without the need to make two "rounds" with the truck, which would
drag out your move. This is another reason that it is so important to
be specific and accurate in the items list you provide us with.
Are there any additional fees?
The hourly rate provided by your representative includes all fuel,
tolls, tax, mileage, transportation fees, labor, and the full service
move detailed above. There are no hidden fees – basically the only
thing that can add to your rate would be if you wanted to purchase
boxes from us on your day of move, which is not required.
Remember that wardrobe boxes are provided free for your move on
the day of move, but must be returned upon completion.

When you go over the items you ship with your representative, he or
she will provide you with an accurate quote based on our experience
of how long moves like yours take. These quotes are usually extremely
close to the reality, but if your move does for some reason take more
time, the hourly rate will remain the same. Bear in mind that we
charge in 15 minute increments, so your price won't jump if you
forget to tell us about a few boxes.

If your move takes less time, the price will also go down based on
the hourly rate, until it reaches the minimum for your move. Ask your
representative for details on the minimum for your move.

I have some very expensive items and I would like additional
insurance. What do I do?
The insurance provided in your quote is very basic, and is compliant
with state regulations. The coverage of $.60 per pound is usually
considered sufficient by our customers, but we always encourage our
clients to look into whatever options will help them sleep better while
their move is being completed. When contemplating the cost of
additional insurance, bear in mind that Super Movers maintains a
claims ratio of fewer than 3%, one of the lowest rates in the nation.
Ask your representative for recommendations on insurance companies
we work with.

I'm happy with my quote and excited about your services.
What now?
Once you have made the right decision to move with Super Movers,
we will assemble a contract for you. This legal document includes all
of the details about your move – your items list, your addresses for
pick up and delivery and your contact information. It will list exactly
what is and is not included in the quote. We will need this contract
signed and returned to us in order to hold your moving date. We ask
that you return the contract at least 2 weeks in advance of your move,
but we can also work with more cramped schedules.

Is a deposit required?

A $150 deposit is required in order for most moves to begin.
Usually, we will need this to arrive in our offices 7 business days
before the start of your move. If there isn’t time for us to receive
it a week in advance, you may need to overnight the check directly
to our central office in San Francisco.
